CDs

26th June 2006

I have been listening to so much music lately so here is a short list..........

Karine Polwart.....Scribbled in Chalk   -   Such a good album.  Definitely on a par with her last one (Faultlines).  Folky, delicious melodies and thoughtful lyrics from the heart.  Recommended.  Don't be put off by her folk tag!  Love this one.

Roddy Frame.....Western Skies   -   I am a big Roddy fan but this took a while to grow for me.  Perseverance paid off though and I now love it.  I prefer the smaller production.  It's pared back with the exception of a couple of songs.  Good summer one (or Winter one).  Check out Surf too,,,just Roddy and his guitar.  While I'm on the Roddy bandwagon...Live at Ronnie Scott's is a great listen.  Great acoustic versions of his best songs.

Richard Hawley.....Coles Corner   -   Surprise one this.  Very big production and voice.  Bit of a crooner.  It is excellent.  Lush orchestral sounds around lovely songs.  Well worth a listen (and a purchase!).

Ashley Reaks.....Children Rule   -   Ashley got in touch with me though Myspace and we exchanged cds recently.  It's very good.  He played with Francis Dunnery back in '94 and you can hear the influences.  Tuneful with thought provoking words.

Books

As always I have lots of books on the go.  Must try and be stricter with myself!

Time Traveller's Wife.....Audrey Niffenegger   -   I have an on-off affair with this book.  Sometimes I love it and sometimes I find it tedious!  It's so long and a bit repetitive.  But as of today I am enjoying it.  I think I have taken too long to read it and should have read big chunks over a shorter time.  Gets good reviews...but for me...too long.

Alfred Hitchcock Biography   -   Another massive book.  It's sooooooo thick.  I'm still on his early life.  If you love Hitch films get this.
